In coaching together, you will experience a judgement free, safe space. I will offer the same empathy to coaching clients that I have shared with my patients over my 40 years of clinical practice. As a pediatrician, I have developed a variety of relational and interpersonal skills that are centered on empathy and empowerment. From partnering with first time parents developing confidence parenting their first child to supporting adolescents who are sharing the challenges they face with their physical changes, in every patient interaction, my primary goal was to provide a safe space to explore and overcome the challenges of life and health. I bring the same level of care and compassion to the coaching relationship.
My coaching philosophy focuses on playing to your strengths. Having stated that, with 40 years of experience in the medical field in multiple domains, I recognize that there are times where while docs want to leverage their strengths, they also have times where they want to minimize a weakness. In coaching, I assume that you come willingly and are whole, capable, and resourceful. Like most physicians, I have been trained to quickly triage and offer a fix or next step. This is not how I approach coaching. Instead, I approach coaching by embracing the evidence supporting that you, as the client, have the best solutions or plans but rarely have found the safe space to reflect or discover these solutions. Whether the hurdle is derived from negative self-talk or saboteurs, blind spots may be blocking your forward progress, and a safe space is all you need to explore these areas. What I value is not necessarily what you value, so we will typically begin with a value assessment and alignment exercise as I get to know you. With you as a whole, capable, and resourceful client exploring in a safe setting, we can leverage your values to fuel your growth together.

Coaching Engagements

  1. Starter ARC – “I’m stuck on a couple of issues”

The Starter Arc includes one-on-one virtual meetings with direct coaching focused on specific, real-time challenges. A typical engagement:

  • 8 weeks
  • Focuses on 1-3 of your specific topics, and
  • Focuses on values prioritization exercise and value-based alignment of action.
  1. Enhanced Awareness ARC – “I’m looking for lasting development in my behaviors and beliefs.”

The Enhanced Awareness Arc offers one-on-one coaching sessions and a Behavioral Inventory where we explore your strengths. You have recognized that overplaying strengths in combination with a boss or peers with different communication preferences or behavioral styles can add to challenges to your performance. We may use additional coaching tools which will align with your specific needs. A typical engagement:

  • 6 months
  • Builds on a foundation of values prioritization exercise and value-based action.
  • Completes a behavioral inventory (I use DISC)
  • Identifies, deploys, and iterates on empowering, effective behavior.
  • Generates lasting shifts in mindset and behavior for professional development.
  1. Transition Long ARC – “I’ve got big changes ahead of me and I’m looking for a sage guide to accompany me on my journey.”

This ARC is typically best suited for those contemplating career reevaluation, including work redirection, relocation, advanced opportunities within your current setting, leaving your clinical or administrative roles, starting a new chapter in a new organization, or non-financial retirement planning by exploring “what will I be retiring to?”. A typical engagement:

  • 12 months
  • Builds on a foundation of values prioritization exercise and value-based action.
  • Completes a DISC behavioral inventory
  • Identifies, deploys, and iterates on empowering, effective behavior.
  • Generates lasting shifts in mindset and behavior for professional development.
  • Dives deep into purpose and identity in your current and future environment.
  • Includes 360 evaluations, succession planning, one on one progress meetings in addition to one on one coaching.
  • May include site visits, in-person meetings, direct observations, and personalized debriefing and analysis.
  1. Tailored approach for individual clients – Should none of these general packages resonate with your current needs, we are open to creating additional engagements integrating coaching with can expand to include expert advising should you or your organization desire.
